Aligning your Business Through the Chakras
People often talk about mindset as if it were something contained in the mind. I would like to challenge that concept and look at it from a more holistic point of view. The chakra system works for me because it involves the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual parts of ourselves and offers us a complete model to look at our selves and our businesses.
For those of you unfamiliar with the chakra system it is an 'energetic' way of looking at our bodies. As scientists now agree that everything is made of energy, no matter how much matter is involved we now know that everything is constantly vibrating and in motion. Two separate but similar chakra systems were discovered over 2,000 years ago, one in India and one in China. Both emerged around the same time with striking similarities but some differences. A Chakra is an energy centre in your body located along the midline. Some systems have 7, some more. Each chakra is attached to an organ, endocrine glands and psycho-spiritual processes. Each is depicted by a symbol and a colour although there are various interpretations according to the system used.
Ok, so let's look at how we can apply a chakra model to growing a business.
The first chakra known as the base chakra is located at the base of the spine and is connected with our physicality, vitality and survival. To keep this healthy you need to nurture your beliefs about having enough, act as if we have enough and look after ourselves well physically. Protect your own space and make sure that your have enough time to yourself. Wear red and eat root vegetables to ground yourself. Make sure you do all the practical things in business, keep your environment and your books in order. Time management is key here as is financial planning.
The second chakra is located in your sacral area and is concerned with our sexual energy, creation and creativity and relationships. It is all about how we are in the world with others and ourselves. If it is out of balance, creativity will not flow as it should and we may experience a sense of being stuck. Sing, paint, express and give yourself time to think about how you want your business to look. create a mind movie or a mind map to start visualising exactly what you want to achieve. wear orange, choose bright colours and feed your creative soul. Plant your dreams, grow them but don't dig them up too soon. Hang out with ideas people and focus on your capabilities and possibilities.
The solar plexus chakra is located just under your ribs and is all about your self esteem. This and the first two chakras are about who you are as a person out in the world. Self esteem is important for business growth as well as success in life in general. Choose your friends and colleagues carefully and avoid negative people as playmates, they will poison your positivity. Do not allow wet blankets to put your fire out. Know that you are a child of the Universe, no less than the trees and the stars; you have a right to be here. You deserve good things as we all do.
The heart chakra is the centre of the chakra system and is at the heart of our humanity in the bottom 3 chakras and the spirituality of the top 3. Follow your heart, love what you do and do what you love and you will never do a day's work. Be enthusiastic and passionate and the law of attraction will kick in. This is what the The Secret is all about. Be brave enough to follow and do exactly what you love and the Universe will support you in your dreams.
The throat chakra is the area of expression, it is our 'marketing' centre. In business terms it is about our USP, websites, and our authenticity. It is all about how you present yourself in the world, what you say and how you say it. Speak your truth, and be mindful of the power of your words. Social networking is taking off big time and offers us an opportunity to network like never before.
Our third eye is the centre of intuition and is located in your third eye on your forehead. This is very important in business, especially if you are an entrepreneur. Risk taking is a big part of business and knowing how and when to take risks is a skill that can be learned. Trust conincidences, value integrity and spot synchronicity. Spend time dreaming and visualising that which you want to create. Listen to your gut feelings and create a 5 year business plan. Trust your gut about business decisions and who your work with.
As the root chakra connects you to the earth the crown chakra connects you to the sky, the heavens and all that is. It is located at the crown of your head and is the energy field above it. To keep it healthy, you need to spend time reflecting, connecting with whatever you believe in and in stillness. The motto for this chakra, is "don't just do something, sit there". Once you have spent time in 'your crown chakra' gathering energy and feeling good, bring those positive feelings back down right through the other chakras and just notice what changes.
Business, like life is not just about what you do, it is a reflection of your attitudes, values and beliefs. Spend time being as well as doing and work on getting your mindset right, this will pay off dividends. You attract what you think about.
