Have you been influenced by Frank Kern in March 2010?

It has been fascinating to watch how Frank has birthed his new List Control and to note who else has been involved in the process. I have learned so much from making notes as it has unfolded. It has dominated my inbox for the past week, and will have ripples and effects for quite sometime.

What have I learned? I have learned that internet marketing really is a heady mixture of technology, creativity and sooooo much psychology. That it takes careful planning and lots of work before launching something. That Frank has cast a spell over so many people in the industry and has extraordinary personal power. That he has raised the bar for excellence again, and that in order to launch a really successful campaign, you need to give away some really worthwhile information and entertain people before the launch. That it is worth paying attention to timings and spending much more time planning and automating everything ready before kick off.

Frank is no stranger to internet marketing and has certainly enjoyed one of the highest profiles in the industry. He is spell binding for lot of reasons, and like many successful people he is good at lots of things, he takes good care of himself and is clearly self-disciplined. He is good looking, smart, warm, spiritual, healthy, cool and people like him.

Frank is also a keen surfer. I find it fascinating that so many of the original internet marketers are surfers, like Jason Moffat, Tim O'Toole, John S Jones, John Reese, Ed Dale, Tim Berners Lee, Greg Ambrose, Ryan Higgins, Ty Coughlin and Mr. Wong.  It is no coincidence that the term 'surfing' the net has come into our language, although a librarian (Polly) claims to have come up with the term, I see so much surf language and culture in the internet marketing scene, I can't believe it didn't start there.

From a marketing point of view, both Jason and Frank share similar characteristics to Ken, Barbie's companion who was I think called Malibu Ken originally. Blond hair, fit, smiley and comes with surf board and van. Being part of the van (and wish I could stand up on a surfboard) culture myself, I also know that to a surfer, the most important thing is to create a lifestyle that allows you to catch the waves. Life must fit in with nature rather than the other way around.  It is about discipline, precision, being intuitive, balanced, taking risks, anticipation and above all wanting having FUN, FUN, FUN!   It was always my dream life as a child of the 60s....now my generation are all grown up and it still the dream for me and my children.  My son is actually a surfer and I watch how he does life, he is one smart and cool dude.

I love metaphors and I see so many poignant ones between surfing and internet marketing. For instance, a surfer has be be very organised.  They read the time tables and they make sure they are ready for the good ones, even if they are at odd times.  They plan, anticipate and prepare.  And then they catch it, ride it, and then get ready for the next set. They move on quickly and will go miles to find some surf.  Think about it.

In March 2010, Frank Kern launched his epic campaign by giving away a series of videos and systems that had previously not been released to the public. He launched the email campaign and released a series of very well produced videos of himself in many guises, Frank the cool surf dude with gorgeous split screen VW campervan and slide guitar, Frank the executive business man in upmarket office, car and high paying clients, Frank the 'people expert', Frank the family man who is living the dream and of course Frank the internet marketer and teacher who was about to give away his top secrets- For FREE. Frank the good guy who we all love to follow!

So Frank released Core Influence 1 for free with the promise of Core Influence 2 in exchange for adding 10 more people to his opt in list . He also gave special bonus clip called 'Mysterious Stranger' which was an artistic video with a bit of a 'magic wand' feel to it. All quality teaching and great entertainment. My inbox was flooded within hours with emails beginning with 'thank you' and offering me gifts and bonuses and half-off things in the next 4 days. It was everywhere, Twitter, Facebook, blogs and emails. Everyone put his advice into action and got involved in promoting List Control. Well, I say that this is fairly high level Mass Control. Frank must have the biggest email list in the universe now.

It was viral marketing at it's finest. I have noticed that lots of the top marketers got involved in sending everyone straight to Frank's opt in list in anticipation of the Holy Grail, List Control! I had emails from Ewen Chia, Mike Koenigs, Ryan Deiss, Adam and Jit, Jeremy Shoemaker, Tellman and others who I don't know. Jason Moffat was blogging about it. Many had the same headlines, Breaking News, Life Changing, Viral Traffic Seeds, Warning!, Urgent and so on. Everyone got on board and rode the Kern wave, a couple of people have live interviews lined up with Frank and our internet marketing world has been influenced to the core!

I have saved up all of the emails to study later and will be watching what happens in the coming week. Frank planned this campaign for a long time, others are re-acting to it. This is what I am learning about most. To be very successful, you need to plan meticulously, pick your timings, execute and automate. Offer really valuable or as Frank says, 'cool' stuff and then get others to recruit by offering even bigger and better bonuses.

From The Four Day Cash Machine to Core Influence to List Control, Frank has had us all spell bound. I wonder what will happen next?

Kay, great take on Frank Kern.

I too have watched what he is doing, and agree with you all the way. Marketing has always been as you describe, about the technology, creativity and psychology, yet with the internet, many think it is just 'put it up and they will come'.

The highly successful people online, yes many surfers, have fully embraced the real marketing concept. Joe Vitale talks about tapping into the wisdom of PT Barnum.

We must remember that we are dealing with an emotional creature, and those who learn to massage the emotions of others find great success.

Frank comes off as such a likable guy yet smart about business.

Thanks for that John, I put a lot of work into that hub and a lot of searching and thinking. It has made me look at my own strengths and weaknesses in a new way and think about how and why I will do things differently.

I really agree with you about dealing with emotions and I know that just because we can sell, doesn't always mean we should. And it is about getting the balance between being smart and successful in business and making sure we are being good citizens...

Just checked out your blog, it is excellent, tried to tweet it but Twitter wouldn't let me :( Great work you are doing.

Thanks again,

Kay
